The GAP Innovation Competition is open to all South African citizens or permanent residents (individuals, teams and start-ups). Winners of the GAP competition will be incubated at The Innovation Hub in Pretoria, Gauteng (Maxum, BioPark or Climate Innovation Centre).
The GATE Innovation Competition is open to individuals, small teams and business entities operating from Gauteng townships or have solutions for township economy. Winners of the GATE competition will be incubated at the selected eKasiLabs around the Gauteng province.

Key solutions include infrastructure development (5G, cloud platforms), software and applications (ERP systems, collaboration tools), and cybersecurity measures (threat detection, encryption). It also encompasses data management and analytics (AI, Big Data), telecommunication advancements (IoT, VoIP), and green ICT initiatives (energy-efficient hardware, recycling). Education and training tools address skill gaps, while AI and automation enhance efficiency through chatbots and robotic process automation.
The Green category focuses on solutions that enhance sustainability, reduce environmental impact, and promote renewable energy adoption. Key solutions include clean energy systems such as solar, wind, and hydropower technologies, alongside energy-efficient infrastructure like smart grids and green buildings.
